Retirement planning for couples in Ambler and Montgomery County
We’re a fee-only, fiduciary retirement planning firm based in Ambler, PA.
We help couples with $2-5M portfolios across Montgomery County and the greater Philadelphia area turn savings into a retirement they can actually enjoy.
We’re based in Ambler and meet with clients across Montgomery County and nearby Philadelphia neighborhoods, such as Chestnut Hill, Blue Bell, Spring House, and Fort Washington.
Because we’re primarily a virtual firm, we also work with retirees elsewhere in Pennsylvania and across the U.S.
Pennsylvania doesn’t tax Social Security or most retirement income, which affects how we plan withdrawals.
But it does have an inheritance tax: 4.5% on assets left to children and grandchildren, with no exemption threshold, 12% to siblings, and spouses are exempt. Most states don’t have one, so we build it into your plan.
We're based in Ambler, PA, pretty close to Philadelphia, PA. We operate mostly as a virtual firm, so we can meet with you wherever you're located (in the U.S., that is...sorry Canadians!).
Good news, mostly no! Pennsylvania doesn’t tax Social Security, and it generally doesn’t tax pension, 401(k), or IRA distributions.
That’s a nice head start, but it’s only part of the picture. Federal taxes still apply, and how and when you pull money from different accounts can make a big difference in your lifetime tax bill. That’s a big part of what we do: coordinate Social Security timing, withdrawals, and Roth conversion opportunities so the pieces work together.
Glad you asked, because this one surprises a lot of people. Pennsylvania has an inheritance tax, which most states don’t. Here’s the basic setup:
-
Spouses: exempt
-
Children and grandchildren: taxed at 4.5%
-
Siblings: taxed at 12%
-
Other heirs: taxed at 15%
There’s no exemption amount, so it applies from the first dollar. For a couple who saved carefully and plans to leave something to their kids, that can add up.
The good news is that this is something you can plan for. How accounts are titled, who is named as a beneficiary, and how charitable giving is structured can all matter. We work alongside your estate attorney to make sure your retirement plan and your legacy plan are pulling in the same direction.

We do! Ambler is home base, and we like the option of meeting face to face with local families when it makes sense.
That said, we’re primarily a virtual firm, so if you’d rather meet over video from the comfort of your own home, that works just as well (and we serve retirees across the U.S., too).
Either way, the first step is the same: a free intro chat to talk about what you’re hoping retirement will look like.
Our Clients:
We're a retirement-focused planning + investment firm. That's truly what we love, and what we spend all day, every day doing.
So if you're nearing retirement, or starting to think about it more seriously, we'd be a good fit to chat with.
We work with retirement-minded folks with $2–5M portfolios, with at least $1M of investable assets, as a minimum.
If you don't meet this criteria, we might not be a great fit, but you can always reach out anyway, and we can provide resources for you!
We're proudly based in Flourtown, PA, and serve client families across Montgomery county (in addition to all U.S. residents).
We like the option of in-person meetings where possible, and when necessary (primarily a virtual firm), and also deal with PA-specific issues like the Pennsylvania inheritance tax and retirement income tax matters.

We love science so much we named our firm after a principle...(our clients love that)
